African patent has been granted for the sublingual Dosage Dispensing
Canister. This adds to the patents already received for
The Dosage Dispensing Canister is a sublingual
drug delivery spray designed and manufactured by Europlaz.
Sublingual Spray is fast becoming a preferred
method of drug delivery.
• A spray delivery mechanism does not require the holding of the treatment under the tongue for an extended period of time making it particularly suitable for fragile/debilitated patients, children and those requiring drug administration under supervision;
• Reduces the amount of medication that could be swallowed and may enter the blood stream via the gastrointestinal tract when rapidly disintegrating tablets, lozenges and soft gelatine capsules filled with liquid are used
• Avoids the dispensation of sub-optimal drug concentrations in a relatively small part of the sublingual mucosa that can cause a slower and/or reduced absorption;
• It has been shown that certain types of drug like lipophilic opiates need to be finely spread over the sublingual mucosa in order for them to be properly absorbed.
