Aventis (formerly known as Rhône-Poulenc Rorer)
The Challenge
Metered dose inhalers have helped to provide relief for many thousands of people who suffer from respiratory illnesses such as asthma. These use a high pressure gas to change medication into a fine spray which the patient can inhale directly into the lungs to ease breathing difficulties.
However because young and frail patients found it difficult to release the spray at the same time as inhaling, this meant that some of the medication was not inhaled but left at the back of the throat.
The Solution
Rhône Poulenc Rorer called on Europlaz to help develop the precision moulded FISONAIR holding chamber. This chamber stores the medication until the patient is ready to inhale. Other improvements developed in partnership with Europlaz include a non-return valve to prevent patients from blowing the medication out of the inhaler.
The Verdict
Europlaz were definitely the right choice. Their team of designers understood what we needed and created the exact prototype model. Thanks to their well-equipped tool room they turned this product around quickly and to a very high standard.
